THE PENDLE SHORT TIME TRIAL (3.7m/735ft)

 

Route Description

Follow good stony track ENE to first iron kissing gate. Pass through gate then bear left uphill  to pass through a 2nd gate. Follow a good track above walls to reach grey steel kissing gate at edge of wood (CP1).

Choice of routes to reach Spence Moor W gate (one includes broken wall gap – OK to cross). Pass through Spence Moor West Gate, cross stream then take small trod NE to join main path at Black Hill . Continue R up main path to small cairn at path junction (CP2).

Turn L onto small trod, crossing moor to headwaters of Ashendean Clough. Cross stream and continue on path to Judith’s Cairn. Touch cairn then retrace steps towards Ashendean Clough. Choice of routes down and across moor to reach main path near Badger Wells Hill. Cross main path diagonally  and take any route you like (there’s a choice of paths) to finish at cattle grid on Sabden road.

 

NB: All fences/walls must be crossed via gates or stiles – no fence/wall climbing allowed.

1. Grey steel kissing gate at edge of wood (GR.784388)

2. Small cairn by main path (GR.787399)
3. Judith’s Cairn (GR.782402)

Finish: Cattle Grid (GR.773383)

 

(Can be done in either direction)

 

Rules of Engagement.

Times can be set  anytime but in Summer the Pendle Tuesday runs are preferred, both for safety and social reasons.

Times must be reported to the keeper of leagues (AW) within one day.

You must start from the gate next to the cattle grid.

At CP1 you must  pass through the gate.

At CP2 you must  touch the cairn.

At CP3 you must touch the cairn.

At the finish you must touch the gate by the cattle grid.

NB: These individual timed challenges are attempted at the challenger’s own risk. It is recommended that you are sufficiently experienced & equipped  and that you tell someone you are out there!
