The Vertical Furlong

The Vertical Furlong (0.5 miles/ 660ft)

Route Description

A simple direct climb to Parlick summit.

Start point is a small cairn on N side of stream gully east of Fell Foot. Looking across the gully from the gate next to the Wildcock House ruins, you will see an obvious sheep scrape (a crescent shaped eroded patch of bare earth) on the opposite side. The start cairn is located just on the upper side of this.

There is route choice on the initial section – you need to either go up to the right of the obvious big gully or head left to cross below the gully.  My preference is the latter. The right hand line is less direct and gets you into an area of rushes.

On the upper section trend left continuously until the summit comes into view.
